Skin Disease & Treatment
We diagnose and successfully treat many dogs with acute and chronic skin diseases and allergy. A thorough history and exam often leads to successful treatment utilizing the most recent therapies available.
Thermography & Laser Therapy
Thermography measures the heat in tissue so that areas of inflammation and pain can be pinpointed. Our thermography system uses an advanced camera and software identical to those used in large human diagnostic centers to diagnose breast cancer and other abnormalities in human patients.
Laser therapy employs a wavelength of laser light that therapeutically heals tissue and relieves pain by increasing blood flow, activating nerve pathways, inducing healing and releasing endorphins . Our Companion Laser therapy is the latest technology available.
Take a look at the before and after thermographic scans of a pet’s back – the first photo shows their back in pain prior to laser therapy, and the 2nd photo is their back, relieved, after a laser therapy treatment.
In House & Outside Laboratory Services
Our in house laboratory facilities allow us to perform:
- serum chemistry
- hematology
- hormonal testing
- urinalysis
- and stool and blood parasite testing
We also utilize commercial veterinary laboratories for pathology, specialized diagnostics, cultures and consultation.
Ultrasound & Digital Radiology
Our on site digital radiology equipment is state of the art with cloud storage, immediate availability of printed CD or email to consultants.
Our equipment is capable of providing high quality images of patients as small as a parakeet or as large as a Great Dane.
Our digital dental radiology equipment provides immediate high quality images to properly diagnose dental problems such as broken or abscessed teeth, jaw tumors and misaligned teeth.
We frequently utilize our ultrasound capabilities to diagnose difficult medical problems.
Dentistry
Dental Diagnostics
For proper diagnosis of dental disease, all dentistry includes full mouth digital radiographs. Since 2/3 of the tooth is located below the gum, much disease is missed without radiographs.
Dental Cleaning & Procedures
All dental cases receive IV fluids preoperatively and post operatively and are maintained on vital signs monitoring. Our high speed and low speed drill allows us to safely extract diseased teeth using local anesthetic blocks for pain management.
Learn MorePuppy & Kitten Health Certificates

Anesthesia
We utilize the safest available anesthetics to provide an extra margin of safety, especially for our older or high-risk patients.
Monitoring Vital Signs: Using the most modern equipment, the patient’s vital signs are monitored continuously during all anesthetic procedures.
Maintaining Safe Oxygen Levels: We use an anesthesia ventilator to safely maintain oxygen levels and a steady administration of anesthetic medication.
Intravenous Fluids & Pain Management: Surgical patients are kept on intravenous fluids preoperatively and throughout the surgical and immediate post operative periods to maintain blood pressure and to administer continuous pain control medication.

Learn MoreCancer Vaccine
Medivet Biologics in conjunction with researchers at the University of Kentucky has developed a technique to use cancer cells from a patient’s tumor tissue to create a vaccine against the cancer. Marcum Road Animal Hospital is participating in this treatment technique.
The Vaccine is prepared at the University of Kentucky, shipped to our office and given in three injections; results so far demonstrate a 90% immune response.
This innovative therapy has also been used in some human cancers.
